Students need reliable resources for their reports. Ordinary websites might not be trustworthy (and teachers often limit the number of websites students can use), the best articles are copyrighted and not available for free online, and the library might not have enough books for every student when they all have the same assignment. What to do? Check out our online research resources! They reprint articles from magazines, newspapers, and encyclopedias, they’re free with your library card, and they’re available from home even when the library’s closed.
Some of our best research resources are Academic OneFile, Gale Biography, and Gale News. News features articles on a wide range of general topics from worldwide newspapers and newswires. If teachers specify that articles from “scholarly journals” are needed, try Academic OneFile and its collection of scholarly titles in fields like science and business. Biography is your best bet for biography reports, with articles from magazines, academic journals, and books all listed together under the name of the person being researched. Need more? Try Science to get started on those science fair projects, Literature Resource Center for a focus on writers and their books, or Test & Career Prep for practice tests like the SAT.
To access any of these resources from home, start at chandlerlibrary.org, choose Browse the Library from the menu, then Online Resources and By Name. Scroll down to choose one of our resources. You’ll need your library card and PIN if you’re signing in from home. Then search for your subject. If you need to know how to write citations for your bibliography or works cited page, look for the “Cite” link at the top of each article.
Need a library card? We offer eCards that allow access to our online resources! If you’re a Maricopa County resident, you can fill out the online form to register for your eCard. See more at our Get a Card page. eCard users can come to the library later to upgrade to a full-access card that allows checkout of books and other physical materials.
