It’s a book lover’s favorite time of the year! October is National Reading Group Month, and you can celebrate at your library!
Launched in 2007 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Women's National Book Association, National Reading Group Month is a time to increase public awareness of the joy and value of shared reading, encourage people to join an existing reading group or start a new one, and encourage libraries to host reading group events. Chandler Public Library already offers reading groups for all kinds of readers! Check them out:
Hamilton Fiction Group
A traditional book discussion group with an assigned book each month. This long-running and lively group meets the first Thursday of every month at 12:45 p.m. at Hamilton Library. Visit our Events Calendar for more information including book selections and to register.
Mystery Round Table
Love mysteries? Join one of the few book groups in the area to focus on this genre. Each month we read and discuss a selected title (or in some months, any entry in a selected series), with books ranging from classic whodunnits to domestic suspense and more. Mystery Round Table meets the third Monday of every month at 6:45 p.m. at Sunset Library.
Book Lovers Group
A book group with a twist – you get to choose the book you want to read, with everyone reading different books in the same theme each month. Check our Events Calendar to see what the theme for the month is. Book Lovers Group meets the first Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at Downtown Chandler Library.
Night Owl Book Club
Do you like choosing your own books, but afternoon is the wrong time for you? Night Owl Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Chandler Library. This informal, fun, and friendly group has no assigned theme – just bring in a book you read last month and tell us about it!
Romance Lover’s Book Club
This group combines the popular romance genre with the pick-your-book concept. Each month we’ll feature a romance theme like “celebrity romance" or "second chance" and share everyone’s choices within that theme. Romance Lover’s Book Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 5 p.m. at Hamilton Library.
Chandler Museum Book Club
A partnership with the Chandler Museum, this group meets every other month at the Museum and discusses books in connection with Museum exhibits about local history.
You can also find upcoming book selections and themes in our Book Group Picks booklist. Looking to start your own book group? Take a look at some suggested titles on our Great Books for Book Discussions list. Learn more about our reading opportunities and other resources at our Books page. Keep reading!
