Here's a mid-month update from your library!

Stay Informed

Welcome to our mid-month newsletter, with updates to keep you informed about what's happening at your library. We've got announcements about what's new and notable, updates on how the library has helped the community, and resources you might not know about. Read on to learn more!

We also have two new topic-oriented newsletters going out to subscribers who selected the Books topic or the Children/Youth/Teens audiences. Want to review or update your subscriptions? Find the subscription form here! You'll see many additional (optional) topics - feel free to select any you might be interested in, and we'll monitor community interests for future planning.

Find an archive of our newsletters at our Newsroom page.

New & Notable

Have you signed up for Beanstack yet? Beanstack is a fun new way to track your reading, connect with other book lovers, and participate in reading challenges. There's still time to get on board for April's Earth Day Reading Challenge! Earn badges by attending Earth Day programs, exploring Culture passes, and tracking the books you read. In addition, everyone who signs up for Beanstack this month will have a chance to win an Earth Day prize basket!

Community Connections

StoryWalk®: It’s a Book in the Park

Since 2021, parks around Chandler have featured StoryWalk displays: colorful, enlarged picture book pages posted around walking paths and lakes. Hundreds of families have enjoyed reading together along with the benefits of outdoor physical activity. Our StoryWalk program includes a permanent display at Desert Breeze Park in west Chandler, which currently features Penguin and Penelope. Other books rotate throughout the city, with the latest story, Señorita Mariposa, on display at Veterans Oasis Park until the end of May. Learn more.

English Language Learners and Volunteers Bridge Cultures at CPL

The library offers English language learning and Citizenship Workshops to adults who are new speakers of English and/or preparing for the U.S. Citizenship Exam. This year, we've helped nearly 300 learners from 39 different countries! We couldn't do this work without our Adult Literacy volunteers, who have dedicated nearly 3,000 hours of service to these programs. We welcome all new volunteers to help us expand this program!

Our Community Shone on Library Giving Day

We thank the community for supporting us on Library Giving Day on April 4!  Over $4900 in donations were raised by Friends of Chandler Public Library, which will help us increase opportunities to provide and improve library spaces, programs, and services for all ages. Your support positively impacts the entire community!

Board Game of the Month

Welcome to the Book & Board Library Lounge! We have a collection of board games you can play while enjoying refreshments in Downtown Library's new cafe space. This month's featured game is Dominion.

In Dominion, you are a ruler of a small kingdom of rivers and evergreens with lofty goals of expanding that kingdom into something grander, with more rivers, a wider variety of trees, provinces, and gold! However, you are not alone in possessing that goal. It is a race to build the grandest kingdom of them all.

Dominion is a tactical card game for 2 to 4 players. The recommended age is 13 and up. The average play time is 30 minutes.

Podcast of the Month

Did you know Chandler Public Library has a podcast? Recorded in our very own studio at The Makery, the Makery Studio Podcast covers a variety of topics and introduces some of the many resources and events offered by your library.

In our most recent episode, librarian Aubrey discusses Sunset's seed library, the seed swap program, and water conservation.
