Attention all book lovers! Chandler Public Library has book groups for every reader! Read on to check them out.
Do you like fiction?
Hamilton Library’s Fiction Group meets on the first Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. They read popular fiction every month, and September’s pick is The Giver of Stars. They are currently holding hybrid meetings -- come in person or join online via Zoom. To get a Zoom link, please register on our website.
Sunset Library’s Monday Afternoon Book Discussion also reads primarily fiction. Normally meeting in person on the first Monday of the month at 12:30 p.m., they will meet on September 12 (note the date change) to read Lessons in Chemistry. Then they will be on hiatus for the rest of the year. Check back in January for their new schedule.
Do you like mysteries?
Sunset Library’s long-running Mystery Round Table is one of the only genre-specific book groups at area libraries! Join this hybrid book group in person on the third Monday of the month at 6:45 p.m., or register for a Zoom link to join online. They will read Velvet Was the Night in August and Who is Maud Dixon? in September.
Do you like diving into local history?
Check out the Chandler Museum Book Club! Staff at Chandler Museum and Chandler Public Library have come together to choose a mix of fiction and non-fiction that expand on topics from the museum exhibition Picturing Home: Dust Bowl Migrants in Chandler. This brand-new book group will meet on September 20 at 12 p.m. at the Chandler Museum, 300 South Chandler Village Drive, and September’s pick is The Four Winds. Registration is encouraged.
Do you find it hard to choose just one book to read?
Downtown Chandler Library’s Book Lovers Group is designed to allow participants to read what they want and still have a common thread with the rest of the group. For example, one month they might read biographies. That means you can read any biography you want and share with the group what you read. This approach not only allows everyone to read something of interest, but can also help them branch out into genres that may be interesting. They meet in person on the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m., and in September they will read books that were made into black-and-white movies.
Do you like getting outdoors as much as you like reading?
We have another new collaborative book group debuting this fall! Books in Motion is a walking book group meeting at Veterans Oasis Park, 4050 East Chandler Heights Road. These library staff-led walks will take you on a stroll around the park while discussing recent popular books. They will meet on the first Thursday of the month starting October 6 at 9 a.m. (weather permitting).
Do you like your favorite reading chair so much you’d rather not get out of it?
Our Monday Evening Virtual Book Discussion meets online the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. They read a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction, with This is Your Mind on Plants in August and How High We Go in the Dark in September. Please register to receive a Zoom link for each meeting.
Still can’t get enough reading? Subscribe to the Online Book Club newsletter, which brings you chapters of new popular books in your email!
