The Friends of Chandler Library’s mission is to help focus public attention on the Chandler Public Library through annual events and special programs, and to promote growth of the library’s resources through financial and volunteer support.
In 1981, Mr. Clifford J. Frey and other Chandler residents; Carolyn Shelly, Tynette Housley and Robert Martell recognized that libraries needed additional support. Therefore they joined together to form an non-profit organization called the Friends of the Chandler Public Library to help provide donations of both time and money in order to best serve the community through the library.
The purpose of the corporation is to be exclusively charitable in literacy and education as a non-profit organization which includes maintaining a relationship with the community and other organizations who are interested in increasing, improving and bringing awareness to the vast amount of resources and services of the Chandler Public Library.
Thus, through various resources, the Friends have supported numerous organizations and events to encourage the support and services of the library and its facilities within the community and at all four of its library branches.
The Friends also have supported the City of Chandler in events such as the Multicultural Festival, the Art Walk, The Annual Block Party, the Teen Independent Film Festival and other community events. The Friends also collaborate with the Chandler City members with open forum meetings with our elected officials held in our available meeting rooms.
At the Chandler Library, the Friends hold a supporting role in various programs such as the Tutor and Talk-Time, Adult and Teen Summer Reading Programs, Adult and Teen Volunteer programs, Adult and Teen Literacy programs, as well as the infant and preschool programs such as; Crawl into Reading and Learn & Play interactive programs. The Friends also support the Bookstore/Café’s semi-annual Book Sales and have recently joined the social network group by including Twitter and Facebook accounts to their organization.
The Friends of the Chandler Library board meet on the 1st Tuesday of each month at the downtown branch located at 22 S. Delaware St. Chandler, AZ. The Friends of Chandler Library’s mission is to help focus public attention on the Chandler Public Library through annual events and special programs, and to promote growth of the library’s resources through financial and volunteer support.
